African Methodist Episcopal Church is established in Philadelphia.

Founded by Richard Allen, Absalom jones, and others, it is formed in reaction to racism experienced at St. George’s Methodist Church. The first congregation is Bethel AME Church, with Allen as its first pastor, which is formed in 1794.
